Looking to cut or press a custom vinyl record as a single unit? Whether it's for an original gift, preserving a musical memory, or pressing your own music, Heavy Grooves Records offers custom vinyl pressing with no minimum order, shipped worldwide.
What is a custom single-unit vinyl record?
A custom single-unit vinyl record is a real vinyl record, the kind you put on your turntable where you choose everything yourself :
- The music: your favorite tracks, a voice recording, a live set, your own composition
- The sleeve: with your photo, your artwork, your own design
- The format: 7 inch (45 RPM) or 12 inch (33 RPM)
- The vinyl color: classic black or transparent
Unlike a CD or a digital file, vinyl is a unique physical object, full of emotion, meant to be held, gifted, and collected. Compatible with every turntable on the market. There's just something about the weight of it in your hands that a stream will never give you.
Cutting vs Pressing : what's the difference?
This is the question most customers ask us. These are two different steps in the making of a vinyl record:
Direct cutting (lathe cut)
A blank lacquer disc (an aluminium plate coated with a layer of nitrocellulose lacquer) is placed on a precision lathe. A heated cutting stylus (usually sapphire or diamond) is driven by the audio signal from the master recording. As the disc rotates, the stylus cuts a continuous spiral groove into the lacquer surface, modulating the groove walls according to the audio waveform (lateral and vertical modulation for stereo). This creates the lacquer master (also called acetate or lacquer disc). Honest take though, lathe cuts have their place, but the quality depends on the quality of the cutting lathe and on the quality of the engineer. For context cutting lathes used to make lacquer discs for pressed records cost about 300 000 euros fully restaured (Neumann VMS 80 / VMS 70) and cheap cutting lathes (full system) start at 10 000 euros. So lathe cuts made on a VMS 80 will sound better than the pressed vinyl.
Vinyl pressing
This lacquer master is then electroplated to produce the metal “father”, from which the “mother” and finally the stampers (the actual pressing matrices) are made. Pressing is the method used to make actual commercial records, the ones you'd buy in a store. From your audio files, we create a properly pressed vinyl record, with:
- A warmer, richer sound and superior dynamic range
- Same durability as commercial records
- Up to 45 minutes of music (22.5 min per side) on a 12 inch
- A professional finish compatible with every turntable
At Heavy Grooves Records, we use the same method used by major record labels to guarantee the best possible sound quality on every order. Because if you're going to the trouble of making a physical record, it should actually sound like one.
Available formats
7 inch — The Classic 45 RPM
- Length: up to 10 minutes total (5 min per side)
- The iconic single format
- Ideal for 2 to 4 tracks
12 inch — The 33 RPM LP
- Length: up to 45 minutes total (22.5 min per side)
- The classic album format
- Up to 10 to 16 tracks depending on length
- Our edge: 22.5 min per side, more than most competing services
That extra half-minute per side? It adds up. We've seen people try to cram 25 minutes and regret it later.
Who is this service for?
For a unique gift
A custom vinyl record is one of the most original and moving gifts you can give. Create a compilation of someone's favorite songs, the music from your wedding, the tracks that mark your shared story. The kind of thing that ends up on a shelf for years.
Vinyl gift ideas:
- Birthday: the biggest hits from their birth year
- Wedding: the music from the ceremony and reception
- Valentine's Day: a one-of-a-kind love playlist
- Christmas: a personalized gift that will be remembered
For independent artists
Recorded your own tracks and want to see them on real vinyl? It's possible starting from a single copy. No need to order hundreds of units like with traditional industrial pressing. Finally.
For preserving a recording
A wedding speech, a voice message from a loved one, a recording from a birthday party… anything that can be heard can be pressed onto vinyl to be kept and shared. Some of the most powerful records we've made weren't even "music" in the usual sense.
For businesses
Communication agencies, brands, recording studios: custom vinyl is an original and memorable promotional item. Beats another branded tote bag, at least.

How to prepare your audio files
For the best possible sound on your custom vinyl record, here are our recommendations:
- Preferred format: WAV, FLAC, or AIFF — the best possible quality at the source.
- MP3: accepted from 320kbps (avoid low-bitrate MP3s that degrade sound quality).
- Bass: keep bass frequencies in mono for the best vinyl playback. Trust us on this one.
- Volume: don't over-compress or clip your files, vinyl responds best to well-balanced masters.
- Vinyl mastering: we offer a mastering service optimized specifically for vinyl, available on request.
If your master is already slamming against the ceiling, well… the vinyl will tell you.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put any song on my custom vinyl record?
Technically, yes if it's for a personal use and not for resale. However, if you want to press multiple copies of songs protected by copyright (signed artists on a record label), you're responsible for securing the corresponding rights. For your own compositions or royalty-free tracks, there are no restrictions.
Will the sound be as good as a commercial record?
Yes, our process is the same one used by record labels. Sound quality primarily depends on the quality of your source audio files. Garbage in, garbage out, same rule as always.
How many songs can I fit on my record?
It depends on the total length of your tracks. A 12 inch can hold up to 45 minutes of music, roughly 10 to 14 songs depending on their length. Check our full guide on this topic.
How long does it take to receive my custom vinyl record?
Production takes 2 to 4 weeks after we receive your files. For urgent orders, we offer a Rush Order option (3 days). Though if you're reading this the week before the wedding… maybe don't.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes we ship across Europe, UK, the US, Australia, and worldwide.
Can I press my own music to sell?
Yes, absolutely. Many independent artists use our service to press small runs of their albums. Contact us for tiered pricing beyond 5 copies.
Do you offer vinyl mastering?
Yes, we offer a mastering service optimized specifically for vinyl pressing, done by a sound engineer. Contact us for a quote.
